The Fallen One, One

Evangeline had been running so long her lungs burned, but she couldn’t stop. Grief and guilt overwhelmed in such a tremendous wave, it was all she could do to exist. Running meant she was still alive, still breathing. Given what she knew now, she wasn’t sure that was such a great thing, but she couldn’t stop.
The rain made her clothes stick to her, her hair falling out of its clip and becoming a cumbersome weight on her shoulders. Her will to run lessened as the sun disappeared more and more from the sky.

She collapsed, finally, against the cold, wet ground. She’d cried all she could, her eyes having since dried, the rain acting as makeshift tears against her cheeks. She screamed into her hands, a shrill, muffled noise. Her body shook, incapable of finding a better way to release everything she felt. She was overwhelmed.
The earthquake had been completely her; it had been her purpose, her intention. She had known it from birth like one knows simply that they exist. She had always known, always, that it would come that one moment where everything would end and then begin again. It was a knowledge deep within, an ancient omnipotent knowledge that burdened her with its weight.

At one time, she had been safe in the knowledge of what would be. It was simply the reason for everything, for all the fighting, for all the death. Everything would come together in that moment and past grievances would be erased. She couldn’t have known what would happen next, what desperation would cause minds to think.
The imprint of the area moved against her, calming her thoughts. She felt it like a soft touch on her cheek, like a warm breeze in the summer time. She knew this area in that moment, recognized it, knew well of all its past glory. It existed elsewhere, a place completely in tune with all the energies, wound by its stands into tangible objects. Her fingers gripped the wet earth, a desperate attempt to center herself, to stop the raging tidal wave of thoughts that broke through her resolve.

Virgil moved through the forest with renewed vigor, his body and limbs reacting in ways he had never thought possible. His speed was quicker, his limbs more reactive, the muscles within tensing with preternatural growth and energy. It had been a quick transition, though riddled with pain. It shot through him like a thousand needles tearing at his skin, culminating at his chest. He thought he would die before it was all over.
Instead, he survived and he searched. This would never have been possible without the sense of completeness he felt now.

Ahh! Christian! Yay!
Wait, Nicolas? Great, now I’m confused. It would be pointless to ask who he’s with, cause it could change at any time. I hope Valerie will be okay.
Awesome! Go Eva, kick his butt! He’s right, Beryl would have crushed his face. But I guess it is smarter to run. I still want face-crushing.
Marcus interests me greatly. When will we learn more about this one?

I think it’s shot number 6. Eva standing there in the middle of the rainy forest, that high, desolute shot. Perfect, absolute perfection.
Methinks Eckhard has overreached. Between Christian, Eva (who is definitely not powerless), Marcus, and Virgil, he’d better have bigger guns than he appears to have brought to the party. But it would be a mistake to discount Eckhard.
Interesting that she reacted so strongly when he reached for her necklace. But of course she would.
I found Nicholas’ question about Christian hurting Eva fascinating. Surely he means accidentally.
Wonderful, gorgeous, frightening, and you would leave it there! EVIL!!!!

Never mess with a gift from a mother. You’d think Eckhard would know better. If ever there was a moment in which Eva acted like Beryl it was when she kneed him in the throat. Definitely not a girl to be trifled with now.
Eckhard though he’s not a shrinking violet; he’ll be back with a vengeance.

Well done Eva, and running is definitely better than staying and risking the chance that Eckhard would somehow turn the tables. I think Eckhard would do well to remember that she also has some of his genetics, even though he seems to conveniently forget that and focus on what she inherited from Beryl and Christian. Who knows what’s lurking under the surface and waiting to kick in if she gives it a chance!
*crosses fingers that Marcus will be okay ;)*
Not sure that Val will be too happy at seeing Nicolas when she wakes up – for his sake I hope there isn’t a lake nearby :D

Nicolas is just so browbeaten by everyone now, I would almost think that cloud that rained on him did so on purpose.
Get on with your bad self Evangeline, but I kind of think that might be the one and only time Eckhard was going to let that happen. Everyone seems to be converging on her now, I guess the question is going to be who gets there first, Virgil or Christian? Or someone else. I assume Death was anxious about Virgil for this reason?
Now see, I’ve always been a little wary of Marcus, he obviously has his own agenda here.

Hehe, go Eva! Beryl would be so proud *sniffle*.
Eckhard’s pride must hurt even more than his throat.
I love your shots in this now, some of the angles here are really interesting :).
Christian is worrying me in AOL, especially as you’re not into happy endings Mao… but I suspect he’ll get some sort of peace at some point, right? After all it’s Christian.

The whole time I was chanting GO GO EVANGELINE to the tune of GO GO POWER RANGERS.
December 4th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Wondering about Marcus’ agenda here…and can he take Christian if their purposes aren’t running along the same lines? I can’t imagine anyone would have the fire power to take Christian down. And forgive my confusion but who spoke that last line, Marcus or Eckhard?
I am glad to see some fire and spunk coming from Evangeline. I can see how Eckhard going for her mother’s necklace, the one tangible piece left of her mother, would be a tremendous mistake on his part. He is cocky and crazy and it surprised me that he would make such a miscalculation.
This piece was tense. With Eva’s memories returning it feels like all points lead to her now more than ever. She is like the twister that is sucking everything toward her and Eckhard is right, there is nowhere for her to hide now.
Hope Virgil catches up in time…that encounter is going to be fascinating!

Ooh, you updated! Eva did reminded me of beryl’s impulsive kickass attitude. Ah, how i missed her! Eckhard is truly a maniac, twisted through and through! Hmm, kinda interested to know more bout that delicious looking Marcus!

Hurt Eva? why would he hurt her? *blinks and clicks next page*
*squeals* Eckhard!!! okay okay .. i can read.. i’m sorry.. but omg omg omg Eckhard!!!
*takes a calming breath* Evangeline is in trouble tho .. not good that grandpa found her first.
zomg! Evangeline got away! Dang .. run omg run run run!
LOL I love how Eckhard has nothing good to say about her mother.. poor Beryl, he is probably right, but still.
Noooooooooo!!! OMG Eckhard *cries* I know he’s bad but thats what makes him so yummy. Stupid Marcus!
*pouts*
This update is interesting, Mao. So many things happening at once, all coming together, all coming for Evangeline for one reason or another.

Whoa, wait, Christian projects thoughts! What he doesn’t actually speak any more? Is this something new, or something I’ve missed or forgotten, or in the simfic50 stuff I still need to get to?
Marcus is an interesting fellow, indeed. When Evangeline caused the earthquake, she seems to have released some very interesting powers onto the earth. I believe there are some very strong beings running around out there these days. Marcus has caught the imagination because he’s a big, giant mystery. Don’t you love when something you write, and don’t think much about, becomes the big question? :)
Um, perhaps it’s my personal perceptions of Beryl, but I do believe she would have aimed a bit lower, more toward the center of Eckhard’s body. ;D
And Nicolas is so Nicolas, I just knew he’d complain about the rain, and no matter how much he complains about watching Valerie, you just know he’s actually happy to do it. :) It’s usually a safe place to be.
Interesting as always, and it certainly gets the imagination going wondering where all this is going to lead.
I don’t usually do this, but I have a character that outfit Christian is wearing would be perfect for. Do you happen to remember where it came from? :D

:O
I was soo happy to see Christian again, he looks different… grown up, wounded, dangerous!!!
Nicolas, well he looks more like a shadow of what he used to be..
I really hope Valerie will be alright…
and Christian hurting Evangeline, could it really be?
Ha!!! Eckhard, sure he wasn’t expecting that kick… lol that was a wonderful come back Eva! YOu are definitely Christian and Beryl’s daughter!
I really hope Marcus wont kill Eckhard.. lol… that is a job for Christian, or even Evangeline could do it to…
there is a history with those three, and I would love Christian to put an end to than story…
Your pictures are always wonderful Mao, the lighting and the poses are just perfect as always and your writing as always is fantastic!!

So we finally learn a little more about Christian! Is it that he can’t speak any more or he just doesn’t need to? That’s interesting but I think you’ve made reference to that before, or at least to his telepathic abilities? I should really remember, seeing I’m going a shorter time between chapters than everyone else as I’m catching up!
Nicolas making reference to Christian hurting Evangeline without Valerie piqued my interest too. So Valerie acts as a kind of barrier between Christian and Evangeline, protecting her from…whatever he does?
Kind of loved seeing Eckhard get owned twice in the one chapter, first by Evangeline and then by Marcus. I love his character but I just really enjoy seeing him lose, for some reason.
