The Fallen One, Three

January 12th, 2010 by Mao

“Don’t be so hasty to scare them away, father,” Olivia’s voice sounded from behind them. She was propped on the ruin, appearing as if out of thin air. Her confident smile made Evangeline feel nauseated. “They’d make such nice pets.”

They were effectively surrounded, with Eckhard at the front and Olivia covering the back. Evangeline felt terrible, guilt washing over her suddenly. If anything happened to them, it’d be her fault. She’d led death right to them. She tried not to think about Virgil walking into this mess.

“You can’t be serious,” Reyes snapped, turning his anger on Ylva. “Is this what you were waiting for? What the hell is wrong with you Ylva? I’m not about to risk my hide for this little girl!”

“Have you no sense? You will never see your nephew again if you let anything befall this ‘little’ girl. He changed for her, you think he will just let her go? Let this vampire take her?”

Evangeline watched, unsure what to say. She knew Eckhard and Olivia wouldn’t stand idly by for long and she desperately hoped that the werewolves had a plan or at least some method of escape.

“I’ll drag him away kicking and screaming if I have to. He’s already made one stupid mistake, I won’t let him make another!”

Ylva rolled her eyes, “you are a fool, Reyes. This I have always known… but I had never judged you to be such a coward.”

Slighted, Reyes tried to maintain his composure, “I like being alive, Ylva. If that makes me a coward, then so be it.”

Suddenly, Olivia approached Reyes like a predator surrounds its prey, moving on long, limber legs until she was right against him, her pale hand on his shoulder. He cringed, the very essence of vampires repulsing him to his core. Her breath was on his cheek, her lips in his ear. She smiled.

“I want this one, father. I’ve always had a thing for werewolves… they’re just so bestial.”

She was not a normal vampire, he could feel it in the press of her skin, in the aura that she wore like a cloak. He could overpower her easily, snap her in two with little effort at all… provided she didn’t hit him with a spell first.

EVIL EVIL to leave it like this!!

I was whipping through this so fast, after the first scene. That first scene. Has Valerie really given up that much? Yes Nicolas did expect more. An expectation that seems to be rooted in a memory, a physical reaction, rather than who and what he just coupled with.

I adore Ylva. I just adore her. Rethinking my opinion of Reyes who seems oblivious and yeah, wants to stay alive but COME ON. And she took down Eckhard? For the moment.

And how is he there? Is it the place instead of the person?

Eva hurtling through time and space and doing the clumsy thing was totally charming! And, was this the first time she listened? Don’t do it, grab hold of Virgil? Or was it because it was Virgil.

This piece was like a derby race! Love it!

Have to add some more. This whole piece, apart from the first scene, which hung quietly and perfectly in a separate space, moved at warp speed. The shots, the text, all of it, took off FAST and never stopped. It was breathtaking! I kept thinking, this is really moving, hang on here! From Eva moving out of the fountain right on to the end, the sense of speed was phenomenal.

Thanks so much, Beth! I’m glad that came through. I spent some time trying to make it feasible and while it’s not exactly what I’d like, I’m glad it still works. :D Nicolas still sees Valerie as she was… and has come to the harsh, quick realization that she’s changed. Worse yet, it’s his fault. Way to go, Nicolas, you ruined a perfectly decent human being! We’re not done here, not yet… this will be handled throughout. ;)

Ylva is a bit more than she seems. I’ve hinted at it but we’re finally about to get to it, rip off the “mask”, and see what’s behind it. More than just a werewolf. Female werewolves are rare for a reason.

Haha, yes! You caught that, too. If you look back, Evangeline listens to Virgil pretty easily, despite everything. Probably because he found her when she was vulnerable and couldn’t remember and now she trusts him more than everyone else. They have a strange, innocent dynamic.

    Thanks so much again!

Oh dear, Nicolas is the clingy type. To be fair though, its almost like he does expect there to be a bit of old Valerie to still be in there somewhere, the bit worth him putting up with the taunts and the anguish of watching how she is with Christian, and despite all her coldness, I would suspect there might be a little still there, if she didn’t care, she wouldn’t be so desperate for no one to know. But then I could be reading too much into that.

Ylva kicks ass. It was more than a pleasure to see Eckhard go down so easily considering all the other close calls he has had before. Obviously she has a few extra tricks up here sleeve.

    Run Virgil, run!

“Nicolas is the clingy type”… this made me LOL so hard. As much as I’d love to say he is, it’s more him wanting the old Valerie as opposed this cold, heartless Valerie. He’s moved past whatever it was that kept him from her, but she seems to have moved past that entirely. There’s definitely plenty there, but Valerie learned the hard way that trust isn’t something to be wasted.

Yes she does! I love Ylva. :D She is a tricky one, indeed.

  3. Fini

    Wow. So powerful. Very interesting.

I was not expecting Nicolas to seem so… vulnerable, for lack of a better word. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost. He did try to kill Valerie (and no, I’m not providing a page’s worth of innuendo ;) ). I honestly worry more for her. I know she’s strong, but I guess I still think of her as the powerful, but incredibly stupid girl of the first half of WoS.

Finally, Eckhard gets some kind of butt-kicking. Interesting that you went with the default werewolf tone, but it works. They’d better run. I don’t know what they’re running from, but in these stories, it’s rarely something good.

Thanks, Fini! That’s a great word for it, actually, vulnerable. He definitely tried to kill and we can see now that there was something keeping him back from returning what Valerie felt. He’s moved past it, but it’s possible she’s moved past him entirely. Valerie has always been strong, but that doesn’t equate to making the right choices or common sense. Look at Antony, lol.

You know, I was hesitant to use the default tone but all the CC ones were ridiculous. Too shiny or not-werewolfy or just pixelated and bad. So I went with the default, hoping the mesh would beef it up a bit.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA. Did Olivia just call Eckhard “father”?!?!? As in, like, she’s his DAUGHTER? Christian’s sister, Evangeline’s aunt kinda thing????

    Freaking hell :o.

Poor Nicolas. He and Valerie finally get some, err… intimacy and a sort of significant milestone, and then up comes The Wall… /sigh.

Haha, yup, Olivia is Eckhard’s daughter. I think it was briefly mentioned awhile back, but that’s terribly easy to forget! She’d be Christian’s half-sister, given Eckhard’s penchant for banging anything with two legs and boobs. Seriously. ;) Oh yes, The Wall. It will be fun exploring this further. I was angry they went that far, but now it’s added some fun to it all for me.

  5. ruby

Heh Val is so sassy, cutting it off before he can try to get attached. Probably smarter in the long run.
LOL Eva is rediscovering herself, clumsily but still… this could be a good thing, or bad. I mean if she redescovers herself does she become more of a beacon? Easier to find? That kind of thing.. just wondering, dont expect answers.. I mean this is you Mao *giggles*
*squeals* see?! Beacon! *restrains from gushing over Eckhard* oh.wow. *blinks* he’s… smiling.. i think this is the first time i’ve ever been frightened by him..
Father?! O.o She’s my Eckhard’s daughter? I thought he just had the two sons… oh the hussy is so much like her father. *giggles* I like her.. wait, she .. spell? Nice!
Oy Eckhard! *cringes* How nice.. Reyes has an admirer.. heh
I am SO torn! My Eckhard is being man handled by Ylva.. and i adore them both.
That’s right, run cuz her Daddy’s on his way!
Love the photo effects, everything was so well done Mao!

I think it’s a bit too late for that. What happened between them has made things a bit more complicated. It’ll be interesting to see where it goes. This certainly won’t be the last time its mentioned, that’s for sure.

Evangeline is sort of just running on adrenaline right now and not thinking very clearly. She was trained by Valerie and has quite a bit of knowledge in that noggin of her. Once she slows down and starts thinking, she’ll be less of a risk. She’s still the central anchor, though… there will always be multiple groups looking for her.

Eckhard has an undisclosed amount of children. Given his penchant for the ladies, it’s quite possible that there are more out there. I know, right? What a man whore! And LOL, you’re frightened when he smiles?? That is just too great. xD

And Ruby!! I am so glad you caught that. Death is running from something and it sure as hell isn’t Eckhard. LOL

    Thank you!!

Seeing Nicolas being all clingy is slightly amusing, but I feel sorry for Valeria and how much she has had to change in order to survive. My favourite line was when Reyes told Olivia that he’d snap off her hands and make her wear them as earrings. I like it when the werewolves descend into the more animalistic side of their personalities. I do wonder what Death so desperately wants to get Evangeline away from. It makes me smile when I think about how much Virgil has given up to protect Evangeline, they have a really strong bond :)

Valerie has lost a lot, unfortunately. :( LOL! My werewolves have more beast in them than human. The longer they live, the more their humanity dissipates, especially if they ostracize themselves from society as a whole. And I wouldn’t necessarily say that Death wants Evangeline away from the person so much as Death wants away.

Virgil and Evangeline’s dynamic is such an odd thing. Sometimes, I think I understand it, other times, it eludes me. But I enjoy it immensely.

  7. E. Black

Oh, Mao. So much awesome. My head is spinning.

Valerie had to nip it in the bud and that was probably the nicest way of doing it. Doesn’t help when Nicholas has feelings for her though. The damage is done.

    Ylva is a complete badass.

Aww, thanks!! I’m glad you liked it. And you’re right, she tried… but I don’t think Nicolas will let it drop so easily, LOL. Yes! Ylva is quite bad ass. ;)

  8. Emma

Mao, you are so terrible, leaving us with that cliffhanger!

Also E. Black is totally right, Ylva is pure badassery. She’s my favorite.

Aww, it’s not that bad of a cliffhanger. ;) And Ylva is awesome. :D

  9. Detris

    Hey Mao,

I am back and caught up finally. I just want to say that your writing gets better and better with every story. I am loving AOL.

Eva – what a powerful being but seeing what her parents have turned into you shouldn’t expect less. I love the connection that she has with Virgil. But doesn’t death realize that she is going to have to face Christian one day.

Nic/Val – I am so glad they finally released some of that tension. Val is damaged goods however and Nicholas well it is a little too late.

Ylva – is one bad beast.

Eckhard – Christian may be closer than you think.

Hey there, Detris! Thanks! It’s been a fun, but long process. It’s definitely a bit different than just plain writing. :) I love that you mention the thing about Death, it’s very true, and closer than it thinks. As for the last line in regards to Eckhard and Christian, I love it! It might seem strange to associate someone like Christian with such an ominous statement, but it’s true!

This update moved like a freight train, I felt a little sorry for Nicolas, but only a little. Apparently he wanted more than ‘just sex’. But Valerie’s reaction at his parting touch means perhaps she was affected more than she said verbally.

I gotta agree with Olivia, I WANT Reyes. So…bestial! Woof. Even though he can make earrings out of hands. Whoa.
And great shot of showing Eva’s speed.
I don’t understand though, what or who, took Eck down, was it death? Or am I addled brained? “It stole away his core abilities and left him with dulled senses.”
    Help me. LOL
Great installment. And I can’t wait to learn more about Ylva.

Hey, Drew! No worries, it’s not referring to Death, but the illusion Olivia is using to make them “appear” human; you can see it in this line This form, the illusion itself, weakened him. Death has not present itself to Eckhard yet because it technically cannot interfere directly. ;) We’ll definitely be learning more about Ylva soon enough… thanks!

  11. gayl

I do feel bad for Nicolas despite all the horrible things he has done. I think he wants to make amends and yet that would be a bit difficult given he speared Valerie with a sword. But I always thought there was something between them, really a love/hate relationship.

Is Death urging Virgil and Eva away because of her own desire to not run into Christian? Would he sense Death if she was in the room? And Eva isn’t supposed to run…is that because he can track her that way? Or was the need to get away fast for some other reason?

Ylva really is becoming a most interesting beastie…full of surprises and really growing on me. I am still wondering however what she knows that no one else does.

There’s definitely something there, but that doesn’t mean it will come to anything. The damage he did to Valerie was quite severe and deep; it shaped what she’s become now. We’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out. ;)

Christian wouldn’t sense Death, but he knows Beryl. He’d see right through it and that’s what Death wants to avoid, at least for the moment. Things are a bit too chaotic to add that mess into the mix! Evangeline is very easily traceable, especially by Christian.

So glad the Ylva love is growing! ;)

Why!!! :D why did you end it there!!!!

Anywho… this chapter was even better than the last two.. .if that is even possible!!!

“Life” that was the answer Valerie gave Nicolas when he asked what had happened to her…
and so it is true… “Life” has changed her a lot…
but everyone has changed… even Nicolas… they all chose their way… Anyway… looks like Nicolas was expecting peaches and cream after he and Valerie had sex… but oh so much had happened between those two.. it wont be erased or forgotten in one day with a kiss or just sex…

Olivia is ugly…. like she has the biggest nose I have ever seen in a sim… but she is a interesting character… lol her comment about wanting Reyes was so funny… lol She reminded me a little of Melissande!!

Ylva is another interesting character, so brute and bestial and I never know what to expect with her… I still can’t figure out why she is doing ‘this’ (helping Val and Virgil) At first I thought she was on Eckhard’s side… but now I don’t know… :D
Maybe she is aiming to get to Christian too…

wonderful chapter.. but I agree with SB, it was soo very evil of you to end it there!!! :D lol

Great job Mao, and it looks like I’m all caught up wiht AoL…
It will take me a little longer to get to your Little bits of Fiction but I will for sure get there as soon as I can!!!

It was an incredible read as always!!!!

Oh yes, life has run this lot through the ringer, that’s for sure! Nicolas wasn’t necessarily expecting the best, but he didn’t expect such a cold reception from Valerie, of all people. For her, this a huge, huge out-of-character move. Even Christian would be a bit taken back by it. As for Olivia, aww! I like her. But like Beryl, I favor sims with extreme features. :) Her nose actually isn’t that large, it’s the curve. It’s similar to Beryl’s, actually. I forget who I used as a base for Olivia… d’oh.

Ylva’s motives are up in the air at the moment. She’s all over the place! We’re getting close to uncovering them, though, or at least the start of it. ;) She’s a loner, that’s for certain.

Thanks again, Sandy! :D No worries, I haven’t updated my simfic50 site with any AoL stuff lately. Mostly just contest stuff.

  13. Carla

All caught up! Now I have to wait for the next installment, like everyone else!

Ha, what was Nicolas expecting after sex with Valerie? Cuddles? I had to feel kind of bad for him though – he looked so wounded. But I mean…he also brought this on himself, I guess so I can’t feel completely sympathetic towards him.

“Life”. That was such a sad answer, though I wonder if Valerie has changed too much to even realise how much she’s lost? Does she even care or is she just past that now?

When I was looking at the picture of Evangeline when she was coming towards Ylva and Reyes, I was thinking “goodness, she’s not very graceful!”, so the fact that you added the part about her stumbling and being so clumsy was great.

And cliffhanger! I really want to know what’s up with Ylva. She’s awesome but quite the enigma.

Bah! Sorry it took me so long to get to this. :( And yes, I don’t think Nicolas completely understands the depth of Valerie’s issues now. He tends to expect people to deal with things as he does, though, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it! As for Valerie caring, it’s hard to say. Only time will tell, I guess. She’s changed a lot and I’m the one who created her saying that, haha. And Evangeline is anything but graceful. xD She’s like a powerhouse with no outlet, so anytime she does something, she goes big or goes home and it’s just a mess! Ylva is quite awesome, I agree!
